The AmeriCorps-College & Career Manager will lead a team that supports 50 College & Career AmeriCorps Members, working with students across Schools and Centers in Los Angeles. The AmeriCorps-College & Career Manager is responsible for the development and successful implementation of the College & Career Promise Corps.  This person will collaborate with many individuals within the organization to train, implement and evaluate the outcomes of the strategic plan, maintain the collection of student level data, and ensure that all AmeriCorps, YPI and school site educational goals are met. The AmeriCorps-College & Career Manager will  implement systems that support the operations and logistics of running a high-quality program, monitor the accuracy of data across several databases while assisting with data entry when needed, and will ensure grant compliance.  This individual is a self-starter, takes initiative, is proactive in building and maintaining strong programs, and holds self and team to a high level of accountability. The AmeriCorps College & Career Manager will work across departments (HR, Communications, Finance, Learning & Development, Research & Evaluation, Program) for successful implementation of AmeriCorps program.  This individual will be flexible and personable, able to balance multiple projects at once, and handle all issues and concerns with AmeriCorps Members and programing in a professional manner. Will need to travel to various school sites and community centers to ensure proper program implementation. This individual will be comfortable having difficult conversations, working in a close-knit team, and willing to take on additional projects as necessary to support the overall impact that AmeriCorps Members make in the community. This individual will be comfortable using Microsoft Excel, E-Grants and America Learns. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Program Management & Implementation

  • Manage a staff of 1 Full Time Coordinator and 25 AmeriCorps Members.
  • Oversee all aspects of College & Career Corps Program, ensuring a high level of quality, detail and measurable impact with students off-track from high school graduation/college eligible across multiple programs including:
    • In-school advising
    • After-School Programs
    • Whole School Events
    • AmeriCorps Member Service Days
  • Work closely with the College & Career team in building and refining components of the program through regularly scheduled school observations, feedback from AmeriCorps members, and YPI and school staff, and review of program data.
  • Coordinate with school administration and instructional staff to ensure that school specific content and instructional practices are provided to Americorps Members placed at site.
  • Implementing program orientation and trainings for faculty and site supervisors at Start of Year and Mid-Year.
  • Oversee implementation of AmeriCorps member management process (member hours completion, performance reviews, etc).
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed accurately and on time for AmeriCorps Compliance.
  • Ensure AmeriCorps members are on track to completing assigned goals (Dosage, AmeriCorps member hours, data trackers, etc), providing updated to Senior Director and Assistant Director.
  • Works directly with the Assistant Director of College & Career to meet all site and AmeriCorps goals.
  • Work closely with other YPI program staff (i.e. Community School Coordinators and After-school Site Coordinators) to implement program at sites, including making placement decisions.
  • Maintain a strong presence in school and continually cultivate key relationships.
  • Coach AmeriCorps Members in serving as highly effective ambassadors, mentors and role models.
  • Ensure that all forms in E-Grants are filled out correctly and on time.
  • Develop curriculum, implement, and train Americorps Members on specific College & Career readiness workshops materials.
  • Act as liaison with Grants Management process to ensure grant compliance.
  • Conduct annual site monitoring visits for each host-site.
  • Participate in regular calls with program officer as needed.
  • Remain up-to-date with AmeriCorps / Government Relations Information.
  • Support with coordination of National Days of Service / AmeriCorps required events including but not limited to: 9/11 Day of Service, MLK Day of Service, Cesar Chavez Day of Service, AmeriCorps Swearing in & Graduation Days, AmeriCorps Week, Whole School events).

Recruitment & Compliance

  • Support with overall recruitment efforts for potential new AmeriCorps members, including informing recruitment timelines conducting second round interviews.  
  • Serve as Liaison between AmeriCorps Program and HR Staff on Member concerns or challenges.
  • Attend recruitment events as needed.
  • Create and implement structure for the AmeriCorps Member Mid Year and End of Year evaluations.
  • Work with program management staff to monitor member hours accruals to ensure they are on track to complete all required hours.
  • Monitor performance and compliance through site visits and routine file/ desk reviews.
  • Coordinate training efforts of as needed.

Training & Development

  • Works with College & Career Team to identify specific trainings necessary for AmeriCorps members, including leading and facilitating Training & Development days at least once per month for members and as needed.
  • Coordinate with school administration and instructional coaches to ensure school specific trainings are provided to AmeriCorps Members.
  • Supporting the Life After AmeriCorps development of our AmeriCorps members through planning, facilitating, and implementing targeted workshops, networking opportunities, and resources throughout the year.
  • Develop annual training calendar for AmeriCorps Members, share calendar with site supervisors and school administrators.
  • Create and lead specific portions of AmeriCorps Training & Development days, such as Life After AmeriCorps Days and Pre-Service Orientation.
  • Work in collaboration with YPI Training department to align AmeriCorps training and development needs.

Data & Evaluation

  • Support  key school site staff in the creation and management of Target Lists for AmeriCorps members throughout the year.
  • Collecting aggregate impact data, and quotes from education partners and students when necessary.
  • Use student data strategically to gain support for initiatives or interventions.
  • Conduct End of Year survey with all teachers and administration to assess overall success of program.
  • Implement Mid-Year and End-of-Year Member Experience Survey and ensure data is used to drive programming.
  • Train AmeriCorps Members and other staff on systems and processes.
  • Support with Implementation of annual Site Supervisor and Host Site Surveys.
  • Ensure all necessary data is entered and submitted on time.

Subgrantee Management

  • Act as primary liaison and manager of sub-grantee relationship.
  • Manage and oversee sub-grantee contract of 25 AmeriCorps Members.
  • Hold bi-weekly calls with sub-grantee Program Director.
  • Maintain operational procedures relating to sub-grantee management to ensure the program is compliant with all AmeriCorps requirements.
  • Monitor performance and compliance through site visits and routine file / desk reviews.


  • Participate in staff meetings, conference calls, emails, working groups, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with the YPI Communications department to increase program visibility and maintain AmeriCorps web page presence and content.  
  • Support with the communications and collaboration across AmeriCorps State & National Grants.
  • Lead team on AmeriCorps branding requirements, including ensuring Members have appropriate Service Gear.
  • Travel to other office, work and school sites throughout Los Angeles / Hollywood / Pacoima as necessary.


  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or related area required; Masters preferred.
  • Relative experience working with California Community College and/or University Admissions requirements.
  • At least 3 years direct supervisory experience in school-based programs, mentoring programs or similar programs.
  • At least 2 years of AmeriCorps experience, required.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a non profit, social service, or school setting preferred.
  • 2+ years experience working in a supervisory/management position.
  • Knowledge of education systems, preferably with Los Angeles Unified School District and youth development.
  • Experience developing and successfully implementing programs for youth and adults.
  • Background/work experience as a college/career support staff preferred.
  • Broad understanding of current research, trends, and highlights from the field related to Common Core State Standards.
  • Experience and knowledge with relationship management.
  • Proven management and leadership capabilities, independent worker, keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to follow and create systems and curriculum.
  • Passion for working with and developing young adults.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with various stakeholders such as administrators, teachers, program Managers, and Coordinators.
  • Knowledge of Four Systems of Higher education, Financial Aid and college application process.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet strict deadlines and work under time pressure.
  • Experience working with individuals of diverse ethnic backgrounds.
  • Familiarity working with similar population as service area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AmeriCorps grant compliance. 
  • Strong background working with Excel, Efforts to Outcomes, E-Grants, and databases.
  • Must be able to conduct college academic advising sessions, demographic and academic data collection, conduct in classroom and large assembly presentations to students and parents, and have knowledge of the A-G admission requirements, financial aid resources, and college entrance exams.
  • A strong understanding of AB-540 and college entrance requirements.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Must have experience collecting, inputting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to drive program results.
  • Knowledge of Hollywood and Pacoima service area, community needs, and schools, ideal.
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel between work sites. If applicable, will be required to present proof of acceptable driving record (current H6 printout), current driver’s license, and proof of liability insurance.
  • Must pass a criminal background check (Livescan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment.
  • Must present proof of negative Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) prior to beginning employment, dated within 60 days prior to hire date.
