The Youth Policy Institute operates a City of Los Angeles WorkSource Center in the Pacoima/North Valley community of the city. This center provides a full range of assistance and services under one roof in partnership with EDD. This program targets adult job seekers, workers who have been laid off, incumbent workers, new entrants to the workforce, veterans, people with disabilities and employers. In addition, they will provide job training tracks for job seekers interested in the high wage, and high growth sectors of healthcare and financial services. By providing these workforce investment activities, the WorkSource Center is able to increase employment, retention, and earnings of clients, and increase occupational skill attainment for those participants.


  • Develop lesson plans for each work readiness enrichment session
  • Provide work readiness and academic enrichment instruction to participants as scheduled
  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet participants varying needs
  • Conduct various adult participant workshops on Resume Writing, Application Completion, Interview Skills, Internet Job Searching, and Networking
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction
  • Administer assessment testing and tabulate results
  • Provide feedback to the case manager on participant’s performance and development
  • Maintain accurate case notes for each participant concerning participation in tutoring and work readiness or academic enrichment sessions including any reports required by the local Board or by the State
  • Maintain positive communication with participants
  • Prepare participant to participate in work experiences by reviewing with them both the hard and soft skills needed to obtain and maintain employment.
  • Maintain confidentiality as it pertains to participants
  • Provide assistance, as needed, to case managers
  • Develop positive relationships with schools, employers and other local agencies in order to provide the most effective services possible
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • College degree preferred but a combination of work experience and education may be considered a substitute for educational preference.
  • Relevant teaching experience a plus
  • Knowledge of relevant technology a plus
  • Language Skills Ability to read, analyze and interpret most complex documents relating to federal regulations under WIA guidelines.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints.
  • Two years working in a non-profit organization or public sector environment
  • Excellent communication written skills
  • Exceptional organizational skill; attention to detail; ability to prioritize; ability to meet deadlines; ability to multi-task; strong problem-solving ability
  • Experience working with individuals with diverse ethnic backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
  • Workforce knowledge preferred
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.
  • If applicable, will be required to present current California driver license, proof of acceptable driving record (DMV H-6 printout), and liability auto insurance
