Overview

The Family & Community Engagement Manager will support the advancement of LAPN’s goals to support youth and families to successfully transition through the academic pipeline and live in healthy, safe and stable communities. He/she will work closely with Promise Neighborhood leadership to develop engagement strategies for diverse groups.  Additionally, the Family & Community Engagement Manager will be responsible for the development and successful implementation of the Family Engagement Pathway, which seeks to increase awareness around literacy gains, ELA reclassification, and A-G admission requirements. The pathway will be implemented at all Promise Neighborhood schools. The Family & Community Engagement Manager will support the schools by updating curriculum as needed, training staff, and conducting observations and feedback of all facilitators. The Family & Community Engagement manager will also support Promise Zone’s education workgroup, while developing and maintaining partnerships with various organizations to support the overall goals of Promise Neighborhood and Promise Zone.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage and implement LAPN’s core family engagement strategies and program.
  • Develop, update and review curriculum, outreach strategies, and materials that engage a diverse audience.
  • Monitor program content; attend trainings and conferences and incorporate fresh ideas into department. 
  • Direct short term and long range planning to support strategic programmatic goals.
  • Maintain strong and consistent communication with Assistant Director of Community Schools on progress, challenges and success of program.
  • Ensure that program is implemented effectively, efficiently and consistently in accordance with all grant requirements and YPI’s mission.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with other YPI staff members for the successful implementation of the program.
  • Maintain a professional attitude, confidentiality, and respect cultural differences. 
  • Report workplace injuries and illnesses promptly via the appropriate forms.
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Participate in program related events (program culminations, press activities, community events, etc.).
  • Help support the leading of the Promise Zone Education workgroup.
  • Travel between offices and school sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Program Management

  • Coach and support site-based staff members to: Plan, implement, and support all program components.
  • Monitor and evaluate program progress.
  • Conduct observations and feedback sessions with all facilitators.
  • Develop, facilitate, and oversee professional development trainings/meetings for staff
  • Demonstrate successful execution of strategies for programming and services.
  • Plan and work with other management and school based staff to effectively implement the Family Engagement Pathway.
  • Attend and participate in Manager/Supervisor meetings as part of the LAPN team and fulfill agency responsibilities as it relates to being a Manager.
  • Collaborate with other YPI departments to ensure that services are aligned and integrated from a participant and stakeholder perspective.

Data Management & Evaluation

  • In collaboration with the Research and Evaluation team, identify tools and procedures to ensure that appropriate data is gathered to demonstrate a successful program.
  • Review, verify, and utilize data to ensure that program goals and benchmarks are met while problem solving with staff to overcome challenges.
  • Coordinate the aligned collection and input of evaluation data used to measure ongoing program effectiveness of services and program outcome measures.
  • Produce reports requested, and support the timely submission of all required reports and supporting materials.
  • Use data to drive programmatic and management decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree in education, social work, public policy, public administration or related field preferred.
  • Must have at least two years of management-level experience in community engagement, education, and parent empowerment.
  • Demonstrated record of successful project design, development and management.
  • Experience developing parent or community engagement/education curriculum and outreach tools.
  • Experience effectively supervising full-time staff level positions.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Exceptional organizational skills; attention to detail; ability to prioritize; ability to meet deadlines; ability to multi-task; strong problem-solving ability.
  • Experience working with individuals with diverse ethnic backgrounds.
  • Must be an effective relationship builder not only with community members, but also partner agencies and community resources.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Experience working with data systems preferred.
  • Must have experience collecting, inputting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to drive program results.
