Overview

Youth Policy Institute (YPI) is seeking a Family Engagement Program Specialist for its Expanded Learning program. The primary function of the Family Engagement Program Specialist is to oversee the design and delivery of meaningful learning experiences for adults at participating school sites throughout Los Angeles. In addition, the Family Engagement Program Specialist will provide guidance and support to a team of field-based Family Engagement Coordinators. The position reports to the Expanded Learning Assistant Director and is based primarily out of YPI’s Pacoima office. Frequent travel to school sites will be required.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Act as the department’s point person for family engagement initiatives and programs.
  • Responsible for program quality and day-to-day operations of family engagement programming at various school sites.
  • Lead and assist in the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of family engagement programming.
  • Meet regularly with assigned school liaisons to develop program plans, provide program updates and solicit feedback for the betterment of the program.
  • Work with Family Engagement Coordinators to refine, and assess innovative adult curriculum in various subject areas including but not limited to: student academic success, supportive parenting, college-going culture/requirements, literacy, and STEM.
  • Work collaboratively with Family Engagement Coordinators, school site staff and administration to develop site specific outreach plans.
  • Consistently seek out new and innovative programming and partnership opportunities for the purpose of offering resources to the families we serve.
  • Serve as liaison with external family engagement organizations with whom we contract to deliver services at our school sites.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions.

Program Management

  • Effectively lead and manage a team of 2 high-quality Family Engagement Coordinators to meet program and grant compliance goals.
  • Ensure family engagement program elements are aligned with the goals of YPI’s Integrated Model.
  • Actively engage in the Continuous Quality Improvement process to assess program quality and generate action plans for improvement.
  • Plan and deliver high quality, relevant, targeted professional development support to Family Engagement Facilitators.
  • Conduct regular site visits to ensure program compliance and quality service delivery.

Administrative Management

  • Interview, hire, train and develop Family Engagement Coordinators.
  • Efficiently and consistently monitor program indicators and create necessary improvement plans to promote the achievement of outcomes.
  • Oversee the internal data collection system; file and track required documentation.
  • Review weekly data attendance reports and monthly STAT reports to examine areas needing improvement, and create, implement and monitor solutions.
  • Use data to drive programmatic, management and financial decisions.
  • Develop, manage and coordinate documents needed for internal and external program audits and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain a broad understanding of the Integrated Model services, and other YPI programs.
  • Develop, monitor and adjust family engagement budgets on an ongoing basis.
  • Facilitate the drafting and execution of MOUs with external family engagement organizations.
  • Maintain documentation relating to staff performance issues and provide guidance to staff as needed.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Coordinate with other YPI departments and programs to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Represent YPI’s Expanded Learning department during internal and external meetings.
  • Establish strong and productive relationships with school site staff and administrators to ensure aligned goals and quality programs linking family engagement, daytime and after/before school programming.
  • Provide accurate, relevant and timely information and updates to the program director and all other project stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum 1 year supervisory experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years experience designing and managing family engagement programs required.
  • Experience working with Charter and LAUSD schools, preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, communication and facilitation skills.
  • Must be deadline oriented with the ability to handle various projects and responsibilities, while still maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work with varied populations.
  • Experience working with individuals of diverse ethnic backgrounds.
  • Strong computer skills required. Familiarity with Google Drive, a plus.
  • Additional certifications and/or work experience in specialized programming such as parenting, a plus.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation for frequent travel between sites.  If applicable, will be required to provide proof of current California driver license, acceptable driving record (current DMV H6 printout), and current liability auto insurance.  
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment with children.
  • Must present proof of negative Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) prior to beginning employment dated within 60 days.
