Overview

The Youth Policy Institute operates a City of Los Angeles WorkSource Center in the Pacoima/North Valley community of the city. This center provides a full range of assistance and services under one roof in partnership with EDD. This program targets adult job seekers, workers who have been laid off, incumbent workers, new entrants to the workforce, veterans, people with disabilities and employers. In addition, they will provide job training tracks for job seekers interested in the high wage, and high growth sectors of healthcare and financial services. By providing these workforce investment activities, the WorkSource Center is able to increase employment, retention, and earnings of clients, and increase occupational skill attainment for those participants.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct business outreach through cold calling; phone contact, correspondence and face-to-face presentations to solicit orders for job vacancies and provide businesses with an overview of WorkSource Center services. 
  • Connect with key representatives within hospitals, clinics, and other relevant places of business to forge collaborations in hiring training graduates.
  • Identify job leads for the program’s fluctuating outcomes.
  • Make job vacancies and details available to customers to include information such as duties and responsibilities, qualifications, compensation, how to apply, etc. 
  • Refer qualified applicants to businesses.
  • Review employment applications and job orders to match applicants with job requirements. Match applicant qualifications with businesses’ needs, recording and evaluating applicant experience, education, training, and skills. 
  • Identify and secure job placements for the advancement of program goals and outcomes.
  • Negotiating and create transitional and permanent employment opportunities through wage subsidies with employers for permanent placement opportunities. 
  • Secure Memorandums of Understanding with partnering businesses.
  • Maintain records of applicants not selected for employment and share with Case Managers.
  • Monitor job placements to ensure customers are achieving success in employment placement and their career objectives. 
  • Develop and maintain database and statistics as required by program and funding sources. 
  • Develop partnerships and maintain collaborative working relationships with businesses, career centers, trainers and service providers to increase participant’s resources to improve their marketable skills for job placement. 
  • Work closely with the case management staff keeping open communication and interaction to meet customer satisfaction and job placement goals. 
  • Conduct employer needs assessments and obtain comprehensive job analysis.
  • Make presentations to promote services and community awareness of AJCC and YPI
  • Responsible for establishing new employer contacts and nurturing employer relations.
  • Work with Manager to develop and maintain viable Business Advisory Council. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in social sciences or closely related field. 
  • At least one year of paid experience in workforce development, case management/career counseling, and/or recruiting. 
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing outstanding customer service. 
  • Strong knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring. 
  • Exceptional organizational skill; attention to detail; ability to prioritize; ability to meet deadlines; ability to multi-task; strong problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
