  • Overview

    The ECE Teacher will be responsible for the day-to-day instruction, planning and developing engaging child-centered, teacher-directed lessons aligned with agency-approved curricula; administering appropriate assessments to track and analyze children’s development and adapting and differentiating activities based on data analysis; discussing classroom progress and assessment results with parents; providing nurturing teacher-child interactions; and promoting children’s growth toward school readiness and developmental progress.  The ECE teacher will receive direction from the Program Manager and Program Director.

    Responsibilities

    • Instructs and supervises preschool children in developmental learning activities.
    • Plans, as a member of the early childhood education instructional team, learning opportunities which are appropriate to the individual needs and developmental levels of children, is anti-bias, and culturally diverse; leads the team in evaluating the progress of students.
    • Prepares lessons and keeps appropriate assessment and conference records for all students supervised; confers with services personnel as appropriate.
    • Provides experiences to promote the physical, social-emotional, language and literacy, English language development, and mathematics growth of students.
    • Maintains a developmentally appropriate learning environment in all classroom and outdoor areas.
    • Supervises the health and safety of children.
    • Provides instructional experiences during mealtime and encourages students to eat prescribed portions.
    • Organizes and maintains material and equipment appropriate to the needs and interests of the students; assists in selecting material and equipment for the program.
    • Plans and provides direction to the Teacher Assistant assigned to the classroom.
    • Maintains a collegial and professional disposition and work environment with co-teacher.
    • Participates in staff development activities and continues professional development; participates in and conducts parent education and parent involvement activities.
    • Treats students with dignity and respect; manages student behavior and adheres to children’s personal rights.
    • Utilizes appropriate technology to conduct work.
    • Other duties as assigned will be performed.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications, Education, and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education/child development from an accredited college or university.
    • Valid California Child Development Teacher Permit or higher awarded by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
    • At least 2 years’ experience in an instructional capacity in a licensed child care and development program, preferably CSPP and/or Head Start.
    • Valid Pediatric CPR & First Aid certification from Red Cross or American Heart Association, including Preventative Health & Safety Practices+Nutrition.
    • Experience working with families from cultural and linguistic diverse populations and children identified as at-risk (foster, homeless, low-income) as well as with special needs.
    • Verbal and written fluency in English.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish). (Desired)
    • Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment.
    • Must present proof of negative tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) prior to beginning employment dated within 60 days.
    • Clear criminal record with the Department of Justice following a fingerprint screening with ability to complete and sign a statement of any pending and prior criminal arrests/charges/convictions related to child sexual abuse, child abuse and neglect, and/or violent felonies.
    • Successful completion of an initial health examination, performed by or under the supervision of a physician, to determine, at a minimum, if the prospective employee can perform the duties outlined in the position description.
    • Must present documentation of current immunization against influenza, pertussis, and measles. Updated influenza immunization shall be required annually.
    • Proof of the absence of Tuberculosis from a licensed physician or supervised delegate to show that the prospective employee is cleared to work with children and families dated within 60 days prior to hire date.
    • Must have access to reliable transportation to arrive to work site at scheduled time consistently.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

    • Thorough understanding of child development and the philosophy and methodology of early childhood and elementary education as well as changes taking place in the field.
    • Awareness of safety conditions and symptoms of childhood diseases affecting students.
    • Ability to plan, organize, and direct a rigorous developmental and instructional program by using a wide variety of research-based teaching methods and strategies in order to meet the individual needs and developmental levels of students.
    • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
    • Ability to properly use and manage all materials, supplies, and equipment utilized in teaching.
    • Ability to work effectively as a member of an early childhood education team with students, parents, staff members, and the community at large in providing a rigorous instructional, suitable educational program.
    • Understanding of the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth patterns of young children.
    • Commitment to anti-bias goals and diversity.
    • Ability to take initiative without close supervision.
    • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
    • Task oriented and results driven.
    • Ability to use technology for assessments, reports, attendance, and other duties as assigned. (Preferred)
    • Knowledge and familiarity with the California Preschool Learning Foundations and Curriculum Framework, ECERS, CLASS, DRDP (2015), Head Start Program Performance Standards and Early Learning Outcomes Framework, ChildPlus, California ECE Competencies, NAEYC Code of Conduct, Title 22 and Title 5 licensing regulations, and CACFP Meal Guidelines. (Preferred)
    • Engagement in professional development and membership in professional organizations. (Preferred)
