  • Overview

    The Financial Empowerment Program Manager will oversee the daily operations of YPI’s financial empowerment programs, ensuring clear alignment and integration across departments. These programs include implementing core services, including financial education, free tax preparation, access to income supports and financial coaching. The Financial Empowerment initiative is implemented in a number of locations including the Ventanilla de Acesoria Financiera at the Mexican Consulate, the asset building programs at the Hollywood FamilySource Center and WorkSource Center in Pacoima, and schools across the Los Angeles Promise Neighborhood and Los Angeles Promise Zone.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure YPI clients have access to a seamless and comprehensive continuum of asset building and financial empowerment services by working with staff to link financial literacy, financial coaching, matched savings accounts, free tax preparation, FAFSA assistance, benefits screenings, and access to loan products. 
    • Continuously evaluate, direct, and monitor how well financial curriculum, workshops, and activities meet participant needs and grant objectives, modifying as appropriate.
    • Lead Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program through direct volunteer recruitment and management, tax preparation, and tax day event coordination.
    • Supervise, coach, and evaluate program staff to ensure client needs are met and all program and grant outcomes are achieved.
    • Work closely with Assistant Director to strategically plan for program development, improvement, and sustainability.
    • Collaborate with other YPI staff and departments to ensure proper alignment of financial empowerment programs and joint outcomes. Streamline resources with other programs and departments to maximize impact.
    • Develop and maintain external partnerships, including partnerships with local schools, community-based organizations, banks, and credit unions
    • Develop and oversee data collection protocols for all program activities in order to track program effectiveness and impact. 
    • Work with Assistant Director to complete grant reports and program updates for funders and YPI Executive team, ensuring to meet all deadlines.
    • May serve as program spokesperson, strong communication skills required.
    • This is an exempt position and will require evening and weekend work schedules, especially during tax season.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 1-year experience in a supervisory role required
    • Highly organized with strong customer service skills.
    • B.A. in education, human services, public policy, social work, finance, business administration, or related field; Extensive, relevant work and management experience  in a non-profit may be substituted degree requirement.
    • Knowledge of programs such as Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), financial coaching, financial literacy, matched savings accounts preferred.
    • Experience building programs and aligning activities to meet grant objectives.
    • Extensive knowledge and skill sets related to finance and banking institutions preferred.
    • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
    • Must pass a criminal background check (Livescan fingerprinting), with both the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), prior to beginning employment.
    • Must present proof of being free of active Tuberculosis (TB) prior to beginning employment. All TB clearances must be conducted no more than 60 days prior to start of employment.
    • Must have access to reliable transportation.  If applicable, will be required to provide proof of current California driver license, acceptable driving record (current DMV H6 printout), and current liability auto insurance.
