  • Overview

    The Youth Policy Institute (YPI) is seeking a full-time Academic and Enrichment Program Specialist for its Expanded Learning department (EXL). The Academic and Enrichment Program Specialist will be responsible for developing and monitoring implementation of academic and enrichment programming at EXL school sites. The Academic and Enrichment Specialist will also develop and/or vet all academic and enrichment curriculum. This position reports to the Assistant Director. 

     

    Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as department lead for all EXL academic and enrichment initiatives and programming.
    • Develop and/or implement priority initiatives for math, literacy and enrichment programming at EXL school sites.
    • Support the implementation of high quality academic and enrichment activities that are aligned to Common Core State Standards at EXL school sites. 
    • Research, identify and manage relationships with curriculum providers that will enhance quality of program at EXL school sites.
    • Develop activity plans for academic and enrichment curriculum & provide instructional support for all EXL school sites (K-12). 
    • Research and/or develop appropriate department-wide academic and enrichment curriculum.
    • Ensure multiple sources of data are used (i.e. state assessment results, school strategic plans, survey results, etc.) to drive program design at EXL school sites in order to drive the results of increased competency in core academic subjects and increase student college and career readiness.
    • Develop and/or coordinate and lead ongoing professional development sessions related to academic and enrichment programming.
    • Develop grade specific strategies and tools for working with youth.
    • Work with EXL staff to establish, and periodically review, clearly defined and measurable academic and enrichment outcomes for EXL school sites.
    • Develop a strategy for assessing and identifying staff training needs and knowledge gaps.
    • Report on the status of academic and enrichment initiatives on a regular basis.
    • Conduct classroom observations to identify best practices and model programs, as well as coach leadership team to greater results. 
    • Oversee the overall implementation, evaluation and impact of academic and enrichment curriculum at EXL school sites.
    • Keep abreast of trends and developments in Expanded Learning and related fields.
    • Research and negotiate low-cost or free curriculums for EXL school sites.
    • Create library of approved EXL curriculum providers.
    • Coordinate logistics related to academic and enrichment department-wide culminating events.
    • Assist with the preparation of purchase and check requests in order to process payment for curriculum and department-wide events in a timely manner.
    • Archive copies of submitted orders and track payment progress.
    • Prepare and/or contribute to reports, as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in related subject area(s) (English, math, etc.) required, advanced degree desirable.
    • Minimum 2 years teaching and curriculum development experience or a California Teaching. 
    • Credential required.
    • Academic coaching or related experience preferred.
    • Strong understanding of educational state standards such as Common Core Standards, 21st Century Skills, Project-Based Learning, etc.
    • Experience and a strong track record of assisting students in an academic environment.
    • Experience working with English Language Learners a plus.
    • Experience developing academic and attitudinal assessments.
    • Experience collecting, analyzing and reporting academic data.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
    • Ability to operate with minimum supervision.  
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and deliver planned results in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proactive communicator, problem solver and goal oriented.  
    • Deadline-oriented with the ability to multitask and handle various projects and responsibilities. 
    • Ability to work with varied populations, such as vendors and colleagues.
    • Ability to establish relationships and work cooperatively with vendors.  
    • Ability to think critically and strategically. 
    • Strong written and verbal skills. 
    • Ability to adapt rapidly in response to changing information or funding needs. 
    • Strong computer skills in MS Office.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally.
    • Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment. 
    • Must present proof of negative Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) prior to beginning employment dated within 60 days.  
    • Access to reliable transportation to transport training materials to various sites.  If applicable, will be required to provide current driver’s license, proof of acceptable driving record (current H-6 DMV printout), and proof of liability auto insurance.

    Work Schedule

    • Full-time, some weekends, and/or evenings may apply.
